• ipsilateral femur/tibia fractures
• femoral fractures in the multiply-injured patient
• fractures proximal to a total knee arthroplasty
• fractures distal to a hip implant
• fractures in the morbidly obese patient
• pathologic fractures including those in osteoporotic bone • malunions
